A Hairy Situation: How Cargo Ships are Affecting Grooming

Around the world, freight companies aren’t just facing unique growth challenges. They’re facing the perfect storm. The global pandemic, the March 2021 blockage of the Suez Canal and delays in processing cargo ships at ports have resulted in an increase in prices, both with product and in shipping costs. Not only this, but spikes in demand for goods has also taken a toll on logistics companies.
But it isn't just the retail sector or the home improvement industry reeling in the waves of the world trade challenge: Groomers are also experiencing the effects.
With 90% of world trade moving on water1, it’s easy to see how one hold up can cause a chain reaction across all ports. Some retailers, such as Home Depot, have taken drastic steps to reduce their costs by reserving their own cargo ship to haul freight2.
According to Dan Dressen, CEO of Groomer’s Choice and Senproco, Inc, the backup of cargo is only one part of the equation. Dressen says Groomer's Choice is facing price hikes of close to 600% in container ocean freight costs, 35% increase in stainless steel, and a 36% raise in fuel rates.
“It's important to remember that we’re not the only ones dealing with this,” said Dressen. “We’re facing a volatile global market.”

How does this affect Groomer’s Choice?
Some of our goods, primarily equipment like tubs and tables, are shipped on cargo vessels and checked in at port. Many of these ports have experienced a backlog of containers, taking weeks or longer to process. We strive to always maintain adequate supply to serve our customers but due to recent logistics challenges, we too have seen the ripple effects of this trade congestion.
But it’s not just Groomer’s Choice. Many other grooming supply companies are facing the same challenges and are not able to keep inventory in stock at all, causing a bottleneck of demand.
How does this impact groomers?
With all of this in mind, prices will inevitably be passed to the consumer, a trend that is already being seen from apparel to electronics. For groomers, this will primarily happen for items like equipment and tools. In fact, most of the Dura Dog Grooming Equipment line is seeing a major price increase and will surely be followed by other manufacturers’ goods in days and weeks to come.
Additionally, some perks for free shipping on LTL freight will ultimately be placed on hold until the world trade situation returns to a more reliable state.

Your order will ship and arrive in 1 to 3 business days with standard shipping from one of our four strategically located warehouses. Why has my order shipped in multiple packages?
There are several reasons why you may receive multiple packages. Here are a few examples:
Why am I responsible for shipping costs from another warehouse if the closest warehouse to me doesn't have the product I want in stock?
Though less common, your order may need to ship from multiple warehouses. In this situation, Groomer’s Choice Pet Products covers shipping costs from up to two warehouses when your order totals $99 or more. Any shipping costs from a third or fourth warehouse will need to be covered by you.

Do you price match?
Yes! If you find an identical product listed for a lower price from one of our competitors, we will match that price. To verify, you will need to email us the advertisement or tell one of our sales representatives where to find it. I'm trying to use a promo/coupon code. Why is it not working?
Groomer's Choice Pet Products offers limited time specials and discounts via promo codes. You should only trust promo codes provided in official Groomer's Choice sources (emails, social media, catalogs, advertisements, blogs, our sales representatives, etc.) Promo codes found on third party websites are not valid or eligible for use. If you have any questions about a particular promo code, call us at 888-364-6242, and we can confirm its validity. Multiple promotional codes cannot be used together on the same order.
I heard about a promotion, but now I'm unable to redeem it. Why can't I get that offer?

Returns & Exchanges
I need to return my merchandise. How do I go about doing that?
We will gladly accept the return of merchandise within 30 days after the date of purchase. Items need to be returned in sellable condition, and all boxes, packaging and accessories must be returned. The credit amount will be issued minus a 15% restock fee and/or the cost of replacing missing items. All returns must be preauthorized with a return merchandise authorization (RMA) number and a copy of invoice, if need be. You can obtain an RMA# by calling 888-364-6242 or emailing email@example.com.
What if my merchandise is defective or doesn't work?
After verification/inspection, Groomer's Choice Pet Products will reimburse your return shipping costs. You are responsible for sending merchandise back and including the receipt of shipping costs to be refunded. If you wish to have the item replaced, we will ship out a replacement.
What if my merchandise is different from what was ordered?
After verification/inspection, Groomer's Choice Pet Products will pay return shipping cost of incorrect product(s) and corrected product(s). Under normal circumstances, we will send out the correct product immediately with a return postage label.
What if I no longer need or want my merchandise?
In this situation, you can return your merchandise, but you are responsible for paying return costs. After verification/inspection, Groomer's Choice Pet Products will refund the purchase price to the original payment method. (On non-defective items, the customer is responsible for paying return shipping costs to Groomer's Choice Pet Products as well as all shipping costs to reship any exchange items back to the customer.)
Oops. I ordered the wrong item/size. What do I do?
In this situation, you are responsible for return shipping costs. After verification/inspection, Groomer's Choice Pet Products will refund the purchase price to the original payment method.
What is my warranty?
Groomer’s Choice stands by our products, and, therefore, any item you buy from us has a 100% money-back guarantee within the first 30 days. In addition, select items, such as equipment, fall under manufacturer warranty. This will vary from item to item, and you should verify these details on an individual basis.

Why is the cost different than the last session?
Every Super Styling Sessions webinar is a unique experience. While events in 2020 were standalone sessions, the 2021 certificate series allows attendees to receive certificates of completion for attendance. Some of these webinars also count toward ongoing groomer education, such as Barkleigh Production program hours. Costs may vary based on factors such as costs to put on the webinar and logistics involved with this.
Do you offer scholarships for Super Styling Sessions?
We do not offer scholarships for virtual Super Styling Sessions events at this time. However, if you would like to receive free admission, subscribers of Jay & Sue’s streaming platform, Super Styling Sessions TV, receive free passes to webinars.
How do you register?
Registrations for Super Styling Sessions open four weeks prior to the event. Follow Groomer’s Choice, Jay Scruggs, and Sue Zecco on social media or sign up for our email newsletters for information on registering for the next webinar. All webinar registrations are processed through the Zoom platform.
Zoom wants me to pay through PayPal, but I don’t have a PayPal account. What do I do?
You do not need a PayPal account to pay for Super Styling Sessions registrations. Zoom uses PayPal as a credit card processor, so you may use other payment methods, such as your debit or credit card, when signing up.
I want to sign up for the webinar but I’m not sure I’ll be able to watch it live. Can I watch it at a later time?
Yes. The day after the live show, Groomer’s Choice sends out an email to all attendees with the rewatch link. While you may watch the webinar at your leisure, please keep in mind that any exclusive product discounts have a limited timeframe after the live show.
When does registration close for Super Styling Sessions?
Registration for Super Styling Sessions is open until the start of the live webinar. At that point, Zoom will close registrations.
Are the Super Styling Sessions live webinars included in the Super Styling Sessions TV subscription?
Yes, all webinars are free for SSStv subscribers. One month before the live show, Jay & Sue will send out a communication on joining the webinar. Please monitor the email address and phone number you used for signing up for the streaming platform for notifications.
I’ve never attended a virtual Super Styling Sessions before. What should I expect?
Welcome to the world of Super Styling Sessions! World Champion Groomers Jay Scruggs and Sue Zecco are the hosts and typically groom two dogs each during the event. Throughout the show, they demonstrate best practices for various dog breeds and feature tried and true products to get the job done. They also conduct Q&A sessions with attendees, providing a personal touch to all events.
Are Super Styling Sessions for professional groomers only?
While the content presented is incredibly beneficial to professional groomers, these sessions are also valuable for groomers-in-training, veterinarians, boarding professionals, and others in the pet industry.
How do you determine winners for the giveaways?
A couple days before the live show, we download a list of registrants and run it through a name selection tool using a three-step randomness process certification. A main winner is selected as well as several runners up in case the original winner cannot be contacted. Therefore, it definitely pays to register in advance to make sure your name is on our drawing list!
